Compact and customizable 3D dice tower – slot-in version – with integrated magnets
Designed by a RPG ionate, optimized for 3D printing
As a 3D designer and ionate role-playing gamer, I’ve often been disappointed by existing dice tower models: too bulky, too complex to print, or simply impractical in play. I wanted something functional, compact, nice-looking on the table, and super easy to print, even for beginners. That’s how this slot-in dice tower was born: a practical, fast, and reliable solution, perfectly suited to RPG lovers and 3D printing novices alike!
Two versions with identical dimensions
1. Slot-in Dice Tower – Simplicity as its strength
This version was created to meet a clear need: a tower that is compact, -free, easy to assemble, and reliable from the very first print. It consists of just three parts: the base, the tower body, and an interchangeable decorative front plate. Thanks to a clever slot-guided mechanism, assembly takes only a few seconds — no glue, no tools, no fuss.
The design ensures a secure fit between parts while remaining flexible enough to allow quick disassembly. No s are needed for printing, which saves filament and reduces the chance of failed prints. It’s an ideal model for beginner makers!
2. Rotating Axis Dice Tower – A more technical alternative
For s seeking a more advanced mechanism, I’ve also designed a rotating-axis version that allows the tower to open and lock in either closed or open position. This version, which is more complex to print, has its own dedicated product page:
Magnetic option – For those who love that satisfying “click”
Even for a simple tower like this, I wanted to include a useful technical feature: a discreet magnetic system for those who want their tower to stay firmly attached to the base. Built-in slots let you insert small flat magnets (10 x 10 x 1 mm) into both the base and the tower during printing.
All you have to do is schedule a print pause at the right layer to insert the magnets. No glue required, no forcing — the cavities are designed for a clean, easy fit.
This magnetic system guarantees excellent adhesion between tower and base. During assembly, the magnets align naturally, providing a secure hold with a subtle but satisfying “click”. It eliminates wobble or shifting during rolls and keeps the unit securely closed during transport.
And don’t worry — these little magnets are easy to find online, especially on major marketplaces 😉.
Good to know: the magnet feature is completely optional. That’s why the STL files include two versions: one with magnet cavities, and one without, for those who prefer the simplest setup.
Designed for role-playing, made for your game table
Mini size, maximum impact
Everything is dimensioned to minimize space usage: 165 mm long, 80 mm wide, and 40 mm tall. It fits easily between your character sheets and dice pile, without getting in the way.
The tower disassembles easily for storage or transport. It’s tough enough for conventions, yet light enough to never be a burden.
Smooth rolls, random results
Three internal ramps ensure proper dice bouncing for truly random results — no more doubts! All standard dice types (D4 through D20) roll perfectly.
Quiet tip: For a softer roll, apply 1 mm adhesive felt to the internal ramps. It dramatically reduces noise while keeping great rolling dynamics. These felts are easy to find online, too — again, think of your favorite big marketplace 😉.
Customizable front plates for every taste
One of the fun parts of this design is the interchangeable front plates. Each one adds character and flair to your tower, and more designs are coming soon! Here are the main ones available:
- Smooth classic: simple and elegant — perfect for clean designs.
- Cutout design: full of small holes that reveal the dice as they tumble — fun and decorative!
- Special Edition D&D: a tribute to our GM. It’s easy to print — one base plate and five color inserts to glue on. The result is stunning.
- Special Edition “Conan – Thulsa Doom Cult”: a ion project, designed by a lifelong fan to honor the cult classic movie. It features the dark and mystical elements of the film’s iconic symbol. Print the base face and three contrasting inserts, then glue them on. It’s easy to make and looks amazing!
- Castle-themed edition: a playful nod to medieval settings. This one’s a favorite for mini painters — ideal for customizing with a little paint.
STL File Structure
To help you navigate easily, STL files are neatly organized:
/slot_version/
: contains base and tower files
/with_magnets/
: includes versions with magnet cavities
/no_magnets/
: includes versions without magnets for simpler prints
/front_faces/
: contains all interchangeable decorative front plates
